The winning pattern for Thompson Lake on April 27th, 2008
By Jeff Najmowicz
The primary winning bait at Thompson

>60* Air Temperature
>60*-63* Water Surface Temperature
>Water Visibility was to around 5 feet.
>A bit breezy with winds out of the West.

During practice the week before we fished in the 3’ to 7’ depth range and had some success. We also went shallow and caught quite a few bass in the 1-2.5lb ranges. We had success with 3 lure types: Spinnerbaits, Senkos, and Rat-L-Traps. We also found that spinnerbaits and Traps that were blue in color far out produced anything else.

Everyone poses for a Group Picture after the Tournament. The rest of the week was warm and sunny so we figured the bass would really be moving up shallow. Then Friday before the T we had the temps fall quite a bit so we assumed the fish would be pulled back out of the shallows and in that 3’ to 7’ depth range.

Dan shows off his 4.46 pound largemouth. We caught fish pretty consistently all day in that range but had our most success in a hour and a half stretch where we found a ditch/depression that was 100 yards off a major spawning flat and the fish were loaded up in there in that 3’ to 7’ range. We caught almost all the fish on a blueish/orange Rat-L-Trap with blue dots. We did catch one big fish on a white spinnerbait. We did check shallow again but all the fish were gone from those areas and were deep.  You can check out more pictures and the weigh in report by simply clicking on these links.

The Winning Pattern at the Youth Tournament at Thompson Lake on May 3rd

Fayad Fayad shows off his nice Largemouth he caught at the Kent Lake Youth Paper TournamentIt was a fairly slow day all day.  A front had blown through and fishing got tough.  None of the teams managed to bring in a limit of fish.  The winners caught a couple of fish early. one 16 inch Largie was caught by Brandan Wagner and CJ Hatton got a 14 inch largie shortly after that.  It was looking like it might not be a bad day, but then things slowed down.  Paul Wagner, the boater, managed to catch one 15 inch largemouth just before quitting time.  Brandan caught his fish on a Rattle Trap that was the same color as the ones the guys were getting them on the previous week.  CJ got his fish on a shakeyhead worm.  Paul tricked his fish with a Zoom Lizzard.  We have a Slide Show started if you want to check it out.  You can see the full Tournament Results HERE.
