Lake Nepessing Report

  • Water temperature was 79o
  • Air temp was varying between 70 and 80 degrees F.
  • Winds were out of the west 0-5 mph
  • Cloudy with some light showers throughout the morning

Jeff Najmowicz and Tim Morris show off their winning catch...Tim Morris and Jeff Najmowicz (the first Place winners) We started the morning by fishing the shoreline on the West side of the lake. We fished top-water utilizing poppers and buzzbaits with no results. Spinnerbaits were tried and a Senko buy some boat docks. We did not have any luck shallow except for one short fish. The water was a bit cloudy in some areas so we decided to move out deeper and find the break/edge where the weeds stopped in deep water. We slowly made our way out fishing spinnerbaits and swimbaits and catching one keeper on a spinnerbait and some short fish. Once we got to the edge we found an area where the lake went from 12-13 feet of water up to 6 feet (hump) and then down to 16 feet. There was a lot of weeds/rocks/wood on the hump. We began by positioning the boat deep and casting shallow to bring our lures over the hump. Senko’s proved to be the best bait. Black with blue flake and smoke purple proved to be the best colors (smoke with purple was the best color for the whole day). We stayed in deeper water and fished the weed edge and moved around the lake back in front of the launch. We picked up several keepers and a lot of short fish while moving. The original hump provided our biggest fish of the day. White spinnerbaits caught a few fish but senkos proved to be the lure of the day.
